Update from the Team

The Building Team has been working hard! A lot of the work has been learning about what’s required and what is allowed by the town and state – not surprisingly, there is quite a lot to learn about such a major undertaking.

We have asked for your input, including a Dream Church, about how you would like our new building to serve the congregation and the community, and a Dream Church, about how you would like our new building to look. (You can still send your ideas to us at [email protected].) This is one of our most important rules; to keep the needs of the congregation to the fore. We have also heard from members of the Southold community at large that our Church was considered the “Gateway to Southold” and so, we have a responsibility to keep that in mind, as well.

Team members met with the Southold Town Building Department to address some of the requirements of Town and State agencies.

We met with a member of the Town of Southold Landmark Preservation Commission to get a sense of the restrictions placed on our project from that agency. Those folks have indicated they are willing to work with us, but there are significant restrictions placed on our project.

We discussed the concept of an architectural design competition, and while the team decided to not go in this direction, team members have been actively engaged in discussions with local architects and builders for their input and advice. We have contracted with a surveyor to establish a site plan – the first step in any construction undertaking.

Our team is also tasked with prioritizing how insurance monies are spent, once the project is firmly underway.

The Team continues to meets every other week. We’re working hard to keep the interests of the congregation and the town in mind.
