SAC & 8th Principle Task Force: July, 2024

We have no requests of the Board this month, EXCEPT for input and backing.  As you know, we aren’t going to be asking for regular monthly Share the Plate (STP) donations.  We do plan to ask for one in September (and maybe October) to fulfill our annual member commitment to New York UU Justice (NYUUJ) network.  And, as has been mentioned before, we will respond to requests for emergency assistance when asked.

We are working to revise our approach from giving charity to giving support by connecting on a deeper level, while investing our time and creating more meaningful relationships.

If you noticed Susan Johnson’s “addition” to the agenda, SAC will be:

– hosting a forum/panel discussion, coordinated with Southold Town Emergency Services and to which the community will be invited, on preparedness and staying safe in a variety of potential lifethreatening events; and,

– working with organizations and stake holders on getting and placing a memorial to the 300+ enslaved people who lived on the North Fork.

We did participate in the inaugural Greenport Juneteenth PARADE & Celebration this past Saturday, June 15th (pictures below).  Since the deadline for Board report is before our participation in three additional June events:

– UUA General Assembly 2024 (Thursday, June 20th thru Sunday, June, 23rd);

– Greenport Pride Parade & Festival (Saturday, June 22nd); and,

– Sunday service (June 30th).  This will include a brief report on results of voting with a special

focus on the proposed Article II changes to the UUA Bylaws.  Regardless of the outcome of the vote, the service will focus on “Love at the Center” of our faith.

BTW – we are still expecting to attend a fifth session of LIAC’s online course to be held sometime before General Assembly 2024, in June.  It also will be FREE and open to members of LIAC congregations, and attendees DO NOT have to have attended the prior four sessions.

More info about all the above will be available in the July issue of The Free Spirit AND at your next meeting of SAC / 8th Principle Task Force…

Date & time – 2nd Wednesday of the month.  July 10, 2024, from 4:00-5:00pm

Place – attend either IN PERSON at Southold Free Library in the 2nd floor meeting room OR via Zoom link. EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

With gratitude for your continued support,
