– One signed copy of Class, Race, and Gender: Challenging the Injuries and Divisions of Capitalism, authored by Michael Zweig, Co-Chair of the NYS Poor People’s Campaign – Long Island region (our November STP recipient) remains available at the SAC table (near the back door) for $20. Additional copies can be secured.
– Our December STP collection is earmarked for Sound Justice Initiative, for which we have, thus far, collected $ 115. A few more donations are expected before December 31st so a full accounting will be in the February issue of The Free Spirit.
– Our annual Fall Food and Winter Coat Drive benefits the Center for Advocacy, Support and Transformation which “serves vulnerable populations on the North Fork and Shelter Island, including the working poor, seniors on fixed incomes, single parents, at-risk children, immigrants, people living with disabilities, and veterans. CAST currently serves over 1,500 households representing a total client base of over 3,700 unique individuals – approximately 14% of the total population and 31% of the children living in Southold Town.”
There are four baskets with flyers for our Fall Food and Winter Coat Drop-Off near the back door waiting to be filled with: non-perishable foods and personal care items AND new or gently used coats, jackets, scarves and gloves to help our neighbors in need. Items can be dropped off when our building is open: during office hours (Tu/W/Th from 10:00am-2:00pm) and on Sundays (10:30am-1:00pm). For anyone who cannot come to the building during those hours, or might need a pick up, share my contact info (see below).
The Fall Food and Winter Coat Drive will continue until Southold Winterfest 2025 at which we will be having a table (somewhere on the Main Road in Southold Village) to collect new and gently used socks for Maureen’s Haven.
Date & time – Saturday, February 8, 2925, from 10:00 am until 3:00pm*
Place: somewhere on the Main Road in the Village
* Our doors will be open during these hours to provide adults and children warmth, welcome, and intergenerational activities during the day hours and an additional event in the evening. More details to come.

The monthly theme(s) for December were Presence and Transformation to close out 2024. The theme(s) chosen to open up 2025 with Story and Forgiveness. How might the exploration of these themes potentially shape us individually, as part of our UUS congregation, By placing them at the center of our living, caring and loving (if only a month) might they guide us as we engage in today’s world.
On behalf of the members of SAC and the 8th Principle Task Force, I wish you love, peace and justice,
Patte McManus , Chair
