Absent: Dan Durett, Aiyoung Choi (resigned)

Meeting called to order by Irene, acting chair at 7:05.

A new chalice was “christened” at our meeting with a battery operated tea light: no candles, please!

Our opening words by Kimberly were from Layla Ibrahim.

Minutes for the meeting of May 4 were read and accepted.

Irene spoke of the importance of having a “key point” presentation for the Congregational General Meeting on Sunday May 22. She asked the Team to send their recollections of things the Team has discussed, people heard from, and ideas presented via email to Donya for collation.

This sparked a conversation about email addresses; Mark noted that his address was mistyped at some time, as evidenced by the addresses on Irene’s print out. A Yahoo Group was re-proposed by Bill. He would invite members of the Team to one at his earliest convenience.

A brief discussion was held concerning Aiyoung’s resignation and Beth’s appointment. It was determined this is a Board decision.

Sherry presented ideas for the interior of the sanctuary, given to her by members of the Congregation. The Team reiterated that there are no bad ideas at this time; we haven’t entered into a contract with any builder, contractor or architect as yet. The Team decided to set aside a meeting in the future to examine proposals and sketches. Once the First Universalist Church of Southold and its representative, the Building Team, has entered into a contract, those same ideas will be presented for discussion with our builder.

Because of the discussions with the Congregation on May 8, the Building Team will take these steps:

-To investigate other contractors’ costs for a building with a similar blueprint as Peter presented. Suzette will look into this.

-The Team will investigate hiring an architect, a project overseer or engineer to keep the Church’s best interests to the fore.

-Recommend to the Board of Trustees that it table the Team’s recommendation to hire Northeast Custom Modular. An email would be sent to Dan Durett as Board President. Text follows: In light of concerns raised by the Congregation, the Building Team would like to recommend to the Board of Trustees that they table the proposal to contract with Northeast Custom Modular until such time that those concerns can be addressed.

The names of several architects have been put forward by members of the Congregation, and members of the Team. The Team will investigate further whether they would be interested in our project, as well as their associated costs.

Our next meeting will be Thursday, May 19 at 7:00 in the trailer. Irene will chair.

We all said “thank you” and adjourned at 8:45.
