Per Board approval, donations to the August and September First Sunday STP benefitted NYUUJ (NY Unitarian Universalist Justice network). Thanks to the generous donations received, a third Board approved STP collection in October will instead be utilized for the UU’s operating budget. Additionally, we get to send in our annual member commitment early.
BTW – NYUUJ is asking your help to get Governor Hochul to make a decision about New York’s Medical Aid in Dying Act (A136/S138). You may have heard / seen it referred to as the “MAID Act” or the “Death with Dignity Act,” which NY physicians support by about a 3 to 1 margin. Both the NYS Assembly and the NYS Senate have passed the Bill. Please call or write Gov. Hochul to voice your opinion.
“WINTER IS COMING,” so during your “fall cleanup” and seasonal changeover, keep allies in mind:
-En Mi Camino ( “On My Way”) is still collecting new or gently used shoes for all ages – the greatest need is for children’s shoes
-C.A.S.T. always needs non-perishable staples and personal care items and we will be collecting Mitten Tree donations (including gloves, hats and scarves) in November and December.
-Maureen’s Haven We will be collecting socks at Southold Winterfest table in February. We are hoping to create partnerships with area houses of worship, including St. Agnes (John’s Place) in Greenport, that host. The objective of these programs is to provide a dinner, a place to shower, a safe environment to sleep inside overnight and a bagged lunch for the next day from November through March. Though we can’t provide showers or beds, we can help with meals and collect personal care supplies. Planning and organizing meetings will be held soon so stay tuned for details.
-North Fork Environmental Council (NFEC) rescheduled their REPAIR CAFÉ for Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 1-4pm at George Young Community Center, 446 S. Jamesport Ave, Riverhead, NY. Our REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE table at this event needs things to give away. This is an opportunity to rid yourself of unused paper goods: greeting cards, bows, wrapping paper, gift bags, note cards, notebooks, writing paper, envelopes, stationery, cardboard boxes, calendars, etc. Items WILL be accepted on the day of the event.
Donations for any of the above organizations / events can be brought in any time you come to the church.
YOUR PRESENCE IS REQUESTED at your next SAC / 8th Principle Task Force meeting on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 from 4-5pm in person or via Zoom (link will be emailed on Tuesday).
