Our Name

In early 2024, with the completion of our new building on the horizon, the members felt it was a fitting time to look at how we wanted to be identified in the community and consider whether a change might be appropriate.  After many suggestions and months of contemplation, on August 4, 2024 the members decided to adopt a new name:  Unitarian Universalists of Southold.  The members selected this name for two reasons:  1. to reflect our carrying forth the Unitarian tradition as well as our original Universalist tradition, and the merger of the two sects (Unitarian Universalist Association) establishing a non-creedal faith tradition in 1961; and, 2. to be more welcoming for people whose traditions have a place of worship called something other than a church.  A new domain name for our website was chosen, uusouthold.org, replacing the previous one firstuniversalistsouthold.org, with redirects being added.
