June 2025

Our April Share The Plate recipient, the Butterfly Effect Project received $180.00, thanks to your generosity. Sunday, May 18th we were treated to another visit from their inspiring founder, Tijuana Fulford. She spoke briefly about the “over 600 boys and girls across 31 in-school and out-of-school chapters” served by the organization. Four “Butterflies” shared their own personal stories of metamorphosis to prove “that when given the right tools and encouragement, every child has the potential to break cycles and achieve greatness.”

We have an ongoing collection of items that C.A.S.T. needs: pasta & spaghetti sauce; sugar, brown sugar; flour; tea & coffee; pancake mix; body soap; deodorant; toothbrushes & toothpaste; baby wipes and diapers (Size 4,5 & 6).  You have already filled the blue container with shoes for the “En Mi Camino” (translation “On My Way”)…ONCE…but we’re not done! I’ll be contacting Rosario Rodriguez, the speaker at our Sunday, March 23rd worship service to arrange pickup of this first batch and we can continue to collect until her brother Marvin makes his annual trip to their home town in Guatemala. Although the emphasis is on the great need for children’s shoes, they do welcome gently used shoes for all ages particularly shoes for going to school, job interviews, or church.

We had our usual REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE table, at North Fork Environmental Council’s annual REPAIR CAFÉ on May 3rd at the Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport. We have been invited to participate in an additional REPAIR CAFÉ on Saturday, September 13 from 1-4pm in Riverhead.  More info to come – in the meantime mark your calendars and start bringing in YOUR unused paper goods, such as greeting cards, bows, wrapping paper, gift bags, note cards, notebooks, writing paper, envelopes, stationery, cardboard boxes, calendars, etc. NFEC’s Mark Haubner would like to partner with us to present another panel discussion. Ideas?

Your SAC / 8th Principle Task Force meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month.
