While we enjoy the end-of-year holidays, we invite you all to share in the vital work of our congregation. Join the Social Action Committee (SAC) and the 8th Principle Task Force in the following opportunities for engagement within our community. These collective efforts to foster connection, provide support, and inspire meaningful social change will continue into the New Year, as we move forward together “journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a…Beloved Community.”
In addition to our annual Fall & Winter Coat Collection; Holiday Mitten Tree (+ hats & scarves); and our Warm Hearts, Warm Feet Sock Drive at the Southold Winterfest, SAC, in support of several valued local organizations (i.e., CAST, John’s Place & Maureen’s Haven) donations are being accepted throughout the upcoming season and end-of-year holidays for:
**New / gently used clothing and shoes – particularly warm outerwear, sweaters, and sturdy footwear to protect against the winter elements;
**Non-perishable staple foods – essential items to help stock local food pantries and ensure families have access to nutritious meals; and,
**Personal care supplies – everyday necessities like soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and hygiene products that are often overlooked but critically important for dignity and well-being.
Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference in strengthening our collective compassion and mutual aid during a time when it is most needed. You can drop off your donations whenever you are coming to / by the church. If you need a pick up, please contact a member of SAC or the Board.
Rev. Valerie has been leading a discussion on Social Change Now: A Guide for Reflection and Connection, a book / workbook written by Deepa Iyer and selected as the UUA’s 2025-2026 “Common Read, designed to foster shared learning, spark meaningful dialogue, and encourage action on pressing social justice issues.” The final session will be December 17 at 6pm.
Your perspective and presence are invaluable to our ongoing work. We warmly invite you to our next SAC / 8th Principle Task Force meeting on Wednesday, December 10, from 4-5pm. We offer a hybrid attendance option; you can participate in person or via Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent via email the day before. The agenda will include:
● hosting a regularly scheduled Fellowship Dinner for families struggling with food insecurity
● family advocacy program presented on Sunday 11/9 by Irma Solis (planning meeting early January)
● UU Service Committee & Guest at Our Table challenge by Carolyn & David Holstein
“We say it, again and again, even when the proof lies somewhere beyond the horizon, beyond our reach, beyond our imagination. This is our faith: Another world is possible. Not somewhere else —another world, another lifetime — but here, and now, for us and for all.” words of Rev. Ashley Horan
