We are truly blessed to have the extraordinary Charlotte Day as our Music Director (pictured at right, third from the left). With her globe-hopping background as a child concert pianist, she graduated from the University of Chicago, and started a master's program at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she met her husband Malcolm. Charlotte also taught music at Indiana, Notre Dame University and Bethel College,
and comes to us after 20 years as music director with First Unitarian Church in Pittsburgh, PA.

Charlotte is responsible for bringing world class musicians into our sanctuary for Sunday services, as well as for our Concerts At the Bend music series.  We never tire of her music, or that which her guests so graciously provide.  Join us for a service or concert - it will be worth the trip!

CONCERTS AT THE BEND LAUNCHES SPRING 2008 SERIES

The Gardiner Ensemble, composed of 4 acclaimed musicians, will perform throughout the spring 2008 Concerts at the Bend series held at The First Universalist Church of Southold, located at the bend on Main Road. The first concert will be Sunday, May 18, at 4:00pm. It will feature the music of Haydn, Rheinberger, and Brahms.

The Gardiner Ensemble musicians—Linda Sinanian, violin, Ted Hoyle, cello, Jeffrey Forden, French horn, and Charlotte Day, piano—were showcased at  2007 Concerts at the Bend events. The Ensemble plans to perform chamber music from the traditional repertoire, as well as more esoteric works. On occasion, they will be joined by other prominent artists.

“We found it so exhilarating to perform together last year that we decided to formalize our arrangement as The Gardiner Ensemble,” explains Charlotte Day. “Our plan is to bring a wide variety of chamber music to East End residents, who have not previously been able to hear this repertoire locally.”
